Neonatal Peptic Ulcer



Abstract
Neonatal peptic ulcer are no longer considued a rare disease.
The first recorded neonatal peptic ulcer was by Cruveilhier in 1829.
Kellogg in 1851 was the first to recerd a successful closure of neonatal peptic ulcer.
Suaden hematemesis or melena in the neonatal period suggests peptic ulcer.
1st Sx of most peptic ulcer in neonatal period is those of complication i.e. perforation or bleeding.
Diagnosis is made by ¨ç X-Ray study, ¨è during operation or ¨é only at autosy.
Most of neonatal peptic ulcer heal following medical treatment. Only in those instances where hemorr
hage becames alarming or when such ulcer perforate, surgery indicated and then the most conservative
measures should be to take care of the emergency.
One case of neonatal peptic ulcer was treated medically at Seoul National University Hospital.
